Teri Gender Bender of Le Butcherettes reworks a recent single by Shirlette Ammons which now features Gender Bender on vocals.

Teri Gender Bender, the wild and raw frontperson of indie rock/punk band Le Butcherettes has united with forward-thinking poet/activist/rapper Shirlette Ammons for a reworking of Ammons’ single “Earth Intro”.  The original song appears on Ammons’ sophomore album, Language Barrier, and features The Indigo Girls.

On the new version, now titled “Earth Intro (Drink or Drown Rework)” Gender Bender is front and center on vocals and production (with co-credit to John DeBaun), leaving a vivid mark with her sharp vocals and the ominous electronic backdrop.  She menacingly pierces through with the line “We…need a sweeter religion / We need an urgent inner vision / The clock is ticking.”  The instrumentation, vocals, and tone is totally different from the original song, but both stand strong in their conviction that Mother Earth is where it’s at and needs to be respected , cared for, and saved for the future – and the time to do this is now!

Take a listen:

Language Barrier by Shirlette Ammons was co-released February 5th on SugarQube Records (founded by Ammons and her twin sister Shorlette) and Churchkey Records.  Ammons worked with talented guest artists like the aforementioned luminaries as well as Meshell Ndegeocello, sookee, Amelia Meath of Sylvan Esso, Heather McEntire, and more.
