Alien Boys Capture Chaos in One-Take EP ‘Live at Rain City Recorders’ Alien Boys

Vancouver punks Alien Boys unleash raw intensity and righteous fury on Live at Rain City Recorders, a no-frills, live-recorded EP that captures the band’s unfiltered energy, political conviction, and ferocious punk spirit in just 12 relentless minutes.

Vancouver punks Alien Boys return with Live at Rain City Recorders, a ferocious four-track EP recorded in a single, uninterrupted take. Tracked with no overdubs and minimal post-production by producer Jesse Gander (Japandroids, White Lung), the release distills the unfiltered chaos of an Alien Boys live show into a concentrated 12-minute assault.

Equal parts riot grrrl defiance and hardcore venom, Live at Rain City Recorders doesn’t ease listeners in - it throws punches from the jump. The first track, “Punching Concrete,” takes aim at the unfair systems we all live in, calling for people to come together and fight for real change. Alien Boys don’t just make noise, they have something to say. And they’re not afraid to say it.

Elsewhere, the band takes PJ Harvey’s “Down by the Water” and drags it through a distorted storm of feedback and fury. Their version twists the original into something less sensual, and more volatile and threatening. Frontperson Sarinn’s vocals teeter between melody and rage, backed by Erin and Alex’s jagged guitars, Ivana’s growling bass, and Juan’s relentless drumming. It’s tight, chaotic, and undeniably alive.

Filmed with a single camera by Robert Zawistowski, the companion video captures this performance in real time, weaving between the members with no edits or do-overs. It’s more than a gimmick - it’s a declaration of trust in the moment, and in each other. It’s loud, messy, and totally honest, just like a real punk show.

Alien Boys have been making noise since 2016, and this EP shows they’re only getting louder. Live at Rain City Recorders is a short but powerful burst of energy, full of meaning and fire. If you care about punk music that stands for something, this one’s for you. Recommended if you’re looking for volume, presence, and guts - all of which Alien Boys deliver in spades.
