Mike Chick, frontman of Yawn Mower, is releasing the upbeat indie rock single “Deep Moat” as a preview to his upcoming solo album, ‘More Thrills, Less Hills,’ set to drop on 2/9/24, featuring a nostalgic PBS-inspired video and a fun typewriter-related anecdote.

Mike Chick is known as the frontman of Asbury Park NJ's Yawn Mower who made a name for themselves this past year with their incredible debut album 'To Each Their Own Coat'. The band went on multiple tours hitting most of the US and they even topped it off with an opening slot in Asbury Park's big festival Sea.Hear.Now opening for The Killers & Foo Fighters. Every member of the Yawn Mower troop, which has grown from 2 up to seven, have music projects galore. Mike Chick for years has been doing solo work that is the odds and ends that don't quite fit with Yawn Mower or was just leftover. Today at Rebel Noise we bring you the latest from one of the leaders of the Asbury Park indie scene.

"Deep Moat" is the first single off Mike Chick's forthcoming LP, 'More Thrills, Less Hills'. "Deep Moat" is an upbeat slice of indie rock pie, featuring Bill Bourke on drums, Lou Panico on bass, Emily Bornemann (Dentist) on vocals and Mike Chick on everything else. The song is about admiring someone from afar and hanging up when they answer your phone call. Butterflies in the stomach. Nausea in the throat. You enter all the numbers on the back of that pre-paid calling card into a payphone only to hang up immediately when they pick up to say "hello" or "pronto" or "hola, como estas". Dropping the handset as it swings around and you take off running down the street.

"Deep Moat" was recorded at drummer Bill Bourke's Basement and Waving Cat. Engineered by Chick, Bill and Rudy Meier (Bristler, Scumming, Yawn Mower). The video was recorded on a MiniDV camera in two days by Biff Swenson (Yawn Mower) and Mike Chick and stars Chick and Emily Bornemann of Dentist. Biff also edited the video. Watch Chick and Emily type furiously around eastern Monmouth County in this 1980's PBS inspired video.

Fun fact: the typewriter was almost sold on an online marketplace during the filming of "Deep Moat", but Chick decided against it, opting to keep the family heirloom. After you watch the video, make sure to look out for "More Thrills, Less Hills", dropping 2/9/24 on all streaming services via Mint 400 Records.
