BRISTOL UK BASED INDIE NOIR POP EMILY BREEZE NEW SINGLE “ORDINARY LIFE” REVIEW Emily Breeze

Emily Breeze channels Lou Reed, Patti Smith and Talking Heads on her amazing new single!

There's something almost cinematic about Emily Breeze's new song "Ordinary Life" like we just walked into the first scene of a musical. Emily exclaims, "I was a terrible waitress and even worse singer but I don't care". It's that swagger that really carries this track. Musically the phrasing and cadence almost remind me of something John Cameron Mitchell would have wrote as a track for Hedwig and The Angry Inch. Emily also draws comparisons in the press to Lou Reed, Patti Smith, PJ Harvey and it's all of that too but way more flamboyant.

The track was recorded and produced at the legendary Rockfield Studios by Stew Jackson (Massive Attack), mastered by Pete Maher (Pixies, Jack White, The Rolling Stones) and features all star players Rob Norbury (lead guitar), Andy Sutor (drums), Graham Dalzell (bass) and Helen Stanley (synth). Emily had this to say about the tracks meaning that It's a reflection on a gloriously misspent youth and a celebration of the "magic, misery, miracles and monotony that are sewn into the fabric of everyday existence".

The video is extraordiary and meticulous as well. This is one of those tracks that makes you anticipate a stellar record, so we'll be here waiting! Ordinary Life is the opening track to Emily's third solo album Rapture which she describes as "A collection of coming-of (middle) age stories which celebrate flamboyant failure, excess and acceptance", due for release January 2023.
