Prop House’s new single “Jeff Buckley” blends raw emotion with bright, driving post-punk energy, serving as a heartfelt tribute to old friends and memories from a transformative summer in Yellowstone.

New Jersey post-punk band Prop House has released a new song called “Jeff Buckley,” the lead track from their upcoming EP VECTOR. Releasing through Mint 400 Records, the EP features three songs built around stories of loss, memory, and the strange repetition of everyday life.

“Jeff Buckley” is a raw, emotional track that takes a deep look at missing the past.  Over a murky mix of sharp guitar lines and steady rhythms, singer Ian Beattie delivers lyrics about old friends, emplyee  bonfires, and the kind of song that always seemed to end the night. The track honors the people the band members once worked with during a life-changing summer in Yellowstone National Park. The chorus is a loud and heartfelt tribute: “And we sing! Hallelujah / Like Jeff Buckley did.”

The band is made up of longtime members of the New Jersey underground scene. Rudy Meier, who also plays in Bristler and Yawn Mower, produced the track at his new studio, Yung Bull Recordings. He is joined by Eric James Guy Friedman, Jay Marinzino, and Biff Swenson—musicians known for their work in bands like Earth Telephone, The Vansaders, Yawn Mower, Bristler and Grasser, among others. Each brings a steady & textured style to the group. Meier’s production gives space to Beattie’s voice, which cuts through with a cold and distant tone, fitting for a song about long-gone days.

While “Jeff Buckley” borrows the name of the late musician, it’s not a cover. It’s a personal reflection, referencing how the group of friends used to end their bonfire jam sessions with “Hallelujah,” sung the way Buckley once did. Though a hint of sadness is noted, “Jeff Buckley” carries the kind of bright, driving energy found in joyous post-punk songs—more in line with Rival Schools' “Good Things” than a dirge. There’s movement and hope inside the noisey punk rhythms.

With VECTOR, Prop House continues to push their post-punk sound deeper into emotional territory. “Jeff Buckley” isn’t just a tribute. It’s a message to the past, calling out into the woods for the people who once stood around the fire 10 years ago when Beattie and his Wife worked at Yellowstone.

Singer, Ian Beattie even came up with a list of the specific people he wanted to thank from back in the day:

"For Al, Ed, John, Jan, Ray, Rocco, House, Wolf, Michael, Zack and Hollianne, Tess, Laura, Vanessa, Bridget, June, Tyler and Sarah, Kevin, Pianoman Randy, Ruby, Tuesday, Camille, Vincent, Kat Brekken, Matt, Adam, Chris, Oscar, Jordan, Chef Nate, George, Steven, Hannah, the Gutierrez', Ken and Bernadette, Florida Jeff, Shawn and Zack, Emily, the Gardiner house, HR Mary, Mark, Grant Village Bell Staff, Old Faithful Bell Staff and anyone that was there and I got too stoned to remember. I love you."

VECTOR will be available now from Mint 400 Records on May 30th.
