Chicago power pop band Time Thieves is back with a new release called Come Home, set to drop on May 6th, 2025. This is their first collection of new songs in several years, following their 2020 debut album Spaces, which was released through Anxious & Angry. The band formed in 2015 when singer/guitarist Jonathan Pool and drummer Mike Oberlin decided to start a group that focused more on melody than their earlier punk projects.
Time Thieves blends fast rhythms with catchy guitar riffs and tuneful vocals, all packed into tight, two-to-four minute songs. Their music has been compared to bands like early Weezer, The Rentals, and Grandaddy. Even though all four members come from Chicago’s punk scene, they’ve created something that stands apart—music that still has the emotion and energy of punk, but with more focus on songwriting and hooks.
The new EP features five tracks, including the previously released singles “Remember I Forgot” and “Feels Different.” These songs show how the band has sharpened their sound while staying true to their roots. The band’s music feels energetic and alive, without ever being too polished or overdone. The current lineup includes Pool, Oberlin, bassist Annie Saunders, and lead guitarist Tim Reynolds. Saunders also works to preserve Chicago’s punk history through her project Punk House Chicago. Reynolds is known for his artwork and design work with many indie bands, including those on the well-known label Polyvinyl.
Time Thieves has played with artists like Joyce Manor and Laura Jane Grace, and appeared at The Fest in Florida. Even though they say they’re not a punk band, their background gives them a strong foundation in live performance and musical intensity. Come Home is self-released, keeping true to the band’s DIY spirit. Time Thieves stands out as a thoughtful, energetic power pop group that understands how to blend melody with grit. If you like music that’s smart, loud, and short but satisfying, this band is worth your time.
