Spotlights, the husband-and-wife “sludgegazers” (Brooklyn Vegan) who release their Ipecac debut, Seismic, on Oct. 6, stream new song “What Is This? Where Are We?”

“This song is one of our personal favorites on the record,” say band members, Mario and Sarah Quintero. “It encapsulates the overall ‘beauty in destruction’ theme of the album, we were lucky enough to have Aaron Harris (Isis, Palms) play drums on it.” Harris also produced the 11-song album.

Spotlights have spent the summer on the road with the Melvins, joining the venerable band for their 12-week North American tour. The LA Record said of the Spotlight’s kick offperformance: “The husband-wife duo of Mario and Sarah Quintero (guitar and bass, respectively) dabble in a mix of electronic dream-pop and heavier-than-hell sludge metal, putting them alongside Jesu or Hum as extremists of both beauty and brutality.“

Spotlights’ previous release, Tidals, earned the band a wide sweep of accolades, with reviewers describing the band’s unique sound as “ultra-dense dream-rock” (Clrvynt) and “having the heft of an anvil and the hazy atmosphere of a half-forgotten dream” (Culture Creature). Word-of-mouth about the intoxicating album led to the band being handpicked to join Deftones and Refused for their Summer 2016 tour.
