Denver heavy crew Voidatlas drill down on a resonating and atmospheric brand of progressive metalcore with new 5-track EP, Descending.
The collection is a triumphant marriage of technically weighted, Djent-adorned riffs, skull-crushing percussion & explosive melodies. Unpacking the story behind the new collection, vocalist Trent Heddings shares:
"This EP is the culmination of multiple years of writing, discarding, reshaping, and rewriting a number of song ideas. We picked our strongest tracks to make into small but heavy hitting package, lasting only 16 minutes and change. In that short time we aim to touch on a plethora of dynamic sounds and emotions, all while keeping the music cohesive."
Voidatlas made their first mark on the Denver heavy scene in summer 2024, with the release of debut EP, Surrounding.
The raw, but resonating rookie collection impressed across the genre, with its deft clean/scream interplay and gripping instrumentation capturing the imagination. With three members emerging from former math rock bands, it's perhaps no surprise that angular guitars and mesmerizing riffs perforate the Voidatlas soundscape.
The band's live performances have been lauded across Denver, with the latest feather in the bow coming by way of a mega support slot for metal legends Soulfly.
The Rocky Mountain quartet continued to build on their early success with three 2025 singles. From the epic melodies of "Severance", to the sparring technicality of "Absolution" and the blackened aesthetic of "Descent", the new material hit new sonic heights as the band built towards their new, sophomore EP.
All three tracks take their place - alongside epic metal closer "Dread Again" - on Descending, an album showcasing Voidatlas' dazzling lexicon of heavy, from cinematic crescendos to face-melting guitars. Immersive in its intricacy but sonically potent throughout, Voidatlas' ambitious exploration of metalcore is a searing winter warmer for heavy fans.
