Seattle garage psych outfit Chico Detour have released their new single “Snake Pit” through Den Tapes, delivering a slow-burning and hypnotic track built around repetition, atmosphere, and tension.
Driven by a steady surf-inspired groove and drenched in spring reverb, “Snake Pit” leans into restraint instead of explosive release. The song gradually shifts and tightens around itself, creating an uneasy momentum that feels both physical and psychological. Rather than pushing toward a dramatic climax, Chico Detour allow the tension to linger and repeat, giving the track a trance-like quality.
Melodic guitar phrases drift in and out of the mix while the rhythm section remains grounded and deliberate underneath. Vocals arrive more like fragmented thoughts than direct statements, sliding between beats and blending into the song’s hazy atmosphere. Brief moments of warmth appear during the bridge before the track folds back into its looping groove.
The single closes the band’s latest EP Wash It Down, a release that further sharpens Chico Detour’s balance of garage rock grit, vintage psychedelia, and hypnotic repetition. Across the EP, the band continue favoring groove, texture, and mood over flashy production or polished hooks.
Chico Detour formed within Seattle’s underground DIY scene, growing out of house shows, late-night rehearsal spaces, and a shared obsession with repetitive garage rock rhythms. Fronted by songwriter Sebastian Felipé, the band also features Michelle, Brennan, Christopher, and drummer Jacob, each contributing to the group’s tightly locked-in sound.
Over the last several years, Chico Detour have steadily built their reputation around loud and immersive live performances while sharing stages with acts like The Detroit Cobras and Quasi. The band have also appeared at venues and events throughout Seattle’s garage rock scene, including performances connected to KEXP and Treefort Music Festival.
With “Snake Pit” and Wash It Down, Chico Detour continue refining a sound built on repetition, tension, and raw psychedelic atmosphere without smoothing away its rough edges.
