Austin four-piece French Film have signed with Solid Brass Records and unveiled “Rabbit Foot,” the first single from their upcoming compilation album, Yours + Five, arriving August 21 on digital platforms and limited-edition vinyl.
Formed in the winter of 2023, French Film have quickly become a rising name in Austin’s underground shoegaze and post-hardcore scene. The band, featuring Ash Keenum on vocals and guitar, Drake Moreno on guitar, Colby Falkner James on bass, and Joshua Harpur on drums, has built a reputation for immersive live performances marked by dense textures, dynamic shifts, and powerful energy.
Drawing influence from bands like Sonic Youth, Blonde Redhead, Autolux, and Unwound, French Film blend atmospheric melodies with dissonant guitars and driving rhythms. Their sound balances hazy shoegaze elements with the tension and urgency of post-hardcore.
“Rabbit Foot” offers an early look at the band's evolving style. The track layers shimmering guitars over propulsive percussion and textured bass lines, creating a sound that feels both expansive and unsettled. The song captures the emotional push and pull that defines the group's songwriting while highlighting their ability to move between melodic restraint and abrasive intensity.
French Film first introduced themselves with their debut EP, Yours, released in May 2025. Since then, they have shared stages with acts including Drook, Courting, Unwed Sailor, and We Are Scientists, while also earning attention for their standout performances during this year's SXSW festival.
Recorded with producer Kevin Butler at Test Tube Audio, Yours + Five expands on the ideas introduced on the band's debut release. Across its ten tracks, the collection explores themes of modern anxiety, personal connection, and the search for hope amid uncertainty.
Yours + Five will be available digitally and on limited-edition ruby red and opaque white vinyl through Solid Brass Records on August 21.
