Philadelphia alt-punk group THE AWKWARD MIDDLE are back with a biting new single, 'Because I Forgot My Meds', released Friday, July 11, 2025. Behind the cheeky title is a much heavier truth.
“While the title is humorous,” says frontman Chris Perry, “the track is actually about why I had to put my career on hold for a long time… because I didn’t take the best care of myself and had to pay the price for it.”
Built on crunchy guitars, a strong rhythm section, and emotionally raw lyrics, 'Because I Forgot My Meds' reflects the band’s power-pop-meets-punk approach—melodic, high-energy, and painfully honest. Fans of Blink-182, The All-American Rejects, and Good Charlotte will feel right at home with the mix of catchy hooks and emotional vulnerability.The track also comes with an FCC clean edit, making it suitable for radio play without losing its punch.
Perry started THE AWKWARD MIDDLE as a solo project after years of performing and writing in various scenes. Originally trained in classical guitar and voice, he also studied jazz and composition, giving his songwriting a depth and technical range not always found in such scenes. After spending time in musical theater and fronting the grunge-punk outfit Famous & Fallen, Perry began writing songs that reflected more personal struggles, especially around mental health and neurodivergence.
That raw, real approach carries over into Because I Forgot My Meds, which doesn’t sugarcoat or romanticize the experience of breaking down and rebuilding. It’s funny, but not as a joke. It’s catchy, but it stings. The song is part of THE AWKWARD MIDDLE’s debut EP, currently in production with engineer Brian Mikus and due later this summer. More than just another pop-punk track, 'Because I Forgot My Meds' is a glimpse into the messy middle space between falling apart and putting yourself back together. The Awkward Middle lives in that in-between: loud, honest, and unfiltered.
