The Distillers have always deserved widespread recognition, and MTV, MTV2, KROQ, and even the Red Hot Chili Peppers are doing their best to help the three-year-old LA punk band finally get it.

For the Distillers, their journey towards commercial acceptance took a drastic turn upward just last month. First, MTV "introduced" the group to mainstream America by airing a "You Hear It First" documentary about the band. Then, the cable network added the Distillers' video for "The Young Crazed Peeling" to its MTV2 playlist, giving the group further national exposure. After that, Pasadena's KROQ began spinning "City of Angels" across local airwaves, and the track became the station's most requested song.

However, as if the best efforts of MTV, MTV2, and KROQ were not enough, the members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers decided to personally step up and become the next ones to promote the Distillers' cause. The veteran funk-punk unit accomplished this by name-checking the Distillers on their latest release, BY THE WAY, which is currently the best-selling album in the world.

During the first of two sold-out shows at the Roxy, the triumphant Distillers - Brody, Ryan, and Andy - appeared stronger, more confident, and more powerful than ever. As singer-guitarist Brody passionately ripped through the Distillers' two-album repertoire of love songs, coming-of-age lessons, and feminist-minded anthems, her band's newer, younger, and now-predominately female audience enthusiastically looked on. Hopefully, for the Distillers, this performance was another indication of more good things that are still to come…
