Visceral Contempt Dig Into History and Horror on Sequester Visceral Contempt

Dutch metallic hardcore band Visceral Contempt pair old-school aggression with grim stories of religion, torture and historical violence on their new EP, Sequester.

Dutch metallic hardcore outfit Visceral Contempt have unleashed Sequester, a five-track EP built around punishing riffs, vicious vocals and some particularly dark corners of history.

Released through WTF Records, Sequester follows the band’s 2024 demo The Raid and pushes further into a metallic hardcore sound influenced by Ringworm, Kickback and All Out War.

Visceral Contempt grew from the remains of Human Demise, who disbanded in 2013. Vocalist Maurice and guitarist Willem remained in contact, eventually beginning a new project in 2023 when Willem wrote three old-school metalcore tracks inspired by Operation Oyster, the Allied bombing raid on Philips factories in Eindhoven during World War II.

Those songs became The Raid, with drummer Victor of Dark Intentions and Pigteeth joining the lineup before the demo was recorded in February 2024. Former No Turning Back bassist Johan later joined the band, which played its first shows that December before supporting acts including Earth Crisis, Mindwar and Rancor.

On Sequester, Visceral Contempt move beyond the World War II focus of their debut material without abandoning their fascination with disturbing subjects. “Dogma” takes aim at religious madness, “Mouton” deals with death by guillotine and “Rodents” explores torture involving rats.

The title track draws from the story of Blanche Monnier, a French woman who was confined for 25 years by her mother, giving the EP another real-world horror around which to build its relentless sound.

Recorded in October 2025, Sequester was mixed by Ron Kessels at Overdose Audio and mastered by Jos Driessen at Sandlane Studio. Its CD edition also includes the four tracks from The Raid, bringing the band’s earliest material together with their latest evolution.

For Visceral Contempt, Sequester makes history feel anything but distant, dragging its ugliest stories directly into the blunt force of old-school metallic hardcore.
