Atlanta hardcore band MUELAS blend mariachi influences, personal storytelling, and explosive intensity on their new single “SWITCHBACK,” the latest preview of their upcoming debut EP, Bellow, arriving July 17.

Atlanta hardcore band MUELAS have released their new single “SWITCHBACK,” offering another look at their debut EP, Bellow, which arrives July 17 through Second Engine Records.

Led by singer, violinist, and mariachi musician Susy Reyes, MUELAS have developed a distinctive sound that combines hardcore aggression with Latin musical influences. “SWITCHBACK” highlights that approach, moving between quiet, reflective moments and bursts of crushing intensity. The result is a track that feels unpredictable yet focused, showcasing the band's ability to blend emotional vulnerability with raw power.

Accompanied by a self-directed music video from Reyes, “SWITCHBACK” explores personal struggles, self-reflection, and the difficult process of growth. The song centers on recognizing unhealthy patterns, confronting disappointment, and understanding that meaningful change rarely happens overnight. Through shifting dynamics and emotionally charged performances, the track captures both frustration and determination.

The single also serves as a strong introduction to the themes explored throughout Bellow. Across five songs, MUELAS tackle issues including grief, depression, identity, community, and social injustice. Reyes draws heavily from her experiences as a queer Mexican-American woman, using the project as a platform to express emotions and perspectives that are often overlooked or ignored.

While “SWITCHBACK” moves between delicate melodies and heavy breakdowns, it remains grounded in the band's core message of honesty and emotional release. That balance between melody and aggression has become a defining characteristic of MUELAS, helping the group stand out within the modern hardcore scene.

Bellow will also feature the previously released single “MELT,” another track that addresses social and political concerns through the band's intense and uncompromising style. Together, the songs on the EP create a portrait of a band unafraid to engage with difficult subjects while delivering music that remains cathartic and deeply personal.

As anticipation builds toward the release of Bellow, “SWITCHBACK” demonstrates the full range of what MUELAS bring to the table. By combining hardcore, mariachi influences, and emotionally direct songwriting, the Atlanta group continues carving out a unique space within contemporary heavy music.
