Old Dirty Buzzard returns from the Pacific Northwest with One Foot In The Grave, a grim and forceful new album released on October 31 through Rotten Records. The power trio pushes even deeper into their blend of doom, sludgy blues, and heavy metal, creating a record that feels thick, gritty, and packed with slow-burning weight. The band draws from decades of experience to craft a sound that hits like a collapsing wall—loud, rough, and unfiltered.
The album opens with “Bag of Nails,” a track written in prison by bassist and vocalist Kurt Kilfelt. The song sets the tone for the rest of the record: harsh, bleak, and driven by a deep sense of tension. Kilfelt’s voice cuts through the dense mix with a worn but commanding presence, while his bass holds down a deep, dragging pulse that gives the music its heavy core. Drummer Ben Still and guitarist Ben Axeman carry the rest of the load, hammering out sharp, distorted riffs and thunderous percussion that push the songs toward a steady, punishing intensity.
One Foot In The Grave follows the band’s 2023 debut What a Weird Hill to Die On, but the new record sounds fiercer and more focused. Tracks like “Death Becomes Your Dying World” and “Traitor to Your God” show the band leaning into darker themes with slower tempos, crushing tones, and thick low-end rumble. The music carries a raw, malicious edge that feels closer to early doom metal than anything polished or modern. The band also includes a heavy, faithful cover of Motörhead’s “The Hammer,” grounding the record in the aggressive spirit of their influences.
Recorded with a stark and unpolished approach, the album holds a natural live feel—every strike of the drums, every grinding riff, and every growl lands immediate and unrestrained. Instead of chasing the past, Old Dirty Buzzard stands like a band hitting their strongest form. One Foot In The Grave is their most powerful statement yet: slow, hostile, and built to shake the walls.
