Leeds noise punks Volk Soup blend brass-fueled chaos, post-punk tension, and free-jazz intensity on their debut LP, out October 3 via Dipterid Records.

Leeds-based noise punks Volk Soup are ready to unleash their chaotic debut LP, 10p Jazz, out Friday, October 3 via Dipterid Records (digital and vinyl) and Cruel Nature (cassette). The record follows their rising profile across the UK underground and captures the band’s abrasive, brass-driven approach to post-punk. Fans of The Birthday Party, The Flying Luttenbachers, Morphine, and Viagra Boys will find plenty to dig into here.

Their new single “Friends” premiered this week on God Is In The TV, alongside a blistering live session recorded at Café Etch in Middlesbrough. Vocalist and guitarist Harry Jones describes the song as “a reflection of the time between friendships,” written during years of isolation and cynicism. Referencing a quote from Jacques Tourneur’s 1946 film Canyon Passage, Jones said the track channels the bitterness of that period: “Perhaps the sexiest song on the record,” he joked.

Formed in early 2020 by Jones and bassist Ryan Walker, Volk Soup’s plans were quickly disrupted by the pandemic, postponing their live debut until late 2021. Once gigs resumed, they added drummer Luc Gibbons, cementing the group’s early sound—raw, angular, and unapologetically loud.

By 2022, the lineup expanded to include saxophonist Ryan Geach, trumpeter Luca Vitale, and guitarist George Orton, transforming Volk Soup into a six-piece force. The addition of brass injected a sense of volatility and swagger into their noise-punk foundation.

Volk Soup’s music blends wiry post-punk and abrasive noise with bursts of free-jazz energy—songs that lurch, twist, and threaten to fall apart while remaining tightly controlled. Following their 2023 compilation Incompetent Hits (via French label Swish Swash) and a tour of France, the band began working with producer Oscar McKie and engineer Shaene Hunter, refining their manic live energy into a sharper studio sound.

Their debut LP 10p Jazz stands as Volk Soup’s most realized work yet—a feverish, unpredictable collection that fuses intensity, humor, and disarray into something unmistakably their own.
