Jo-Jo & The Teeth is a Glam Rock'n'Roll band based in London. This year, the band has taken a well-deserved break from the stage to focus on living and gathering new experiences to inspire their music. With a busy schedule of gigs, rehearsals, and day jobs, finding time to create new material or even manage everyday chores has become increasingly challenging. Despite these challenges, the band is gearing up to support the release of their new single "WHISKEY DREAMS", after which they will undertake an intense period of songwriting and recording, with plenty of exciting plans ahead.

Recently we had a chance to catch up with these crazy kids and and ask them a few questions.... here you go!

What are your thoughts on AI and its effect on the music industry?

I mean the fact that there's AI artists is actually insane! but somehow I am not at all surprised... This has been the path that music has been on for a long time, it was only a matter of time before computers replaced humans altogether! Terminator shit!! However, I think there's probably amazing uses for AI on the whole, things that can really benefit humanity, things in the medical field like assisted surgery and improvements in diagnostic accuracy, etc. BUT We DO NOT need AI in the arts.

Is streaming a good or bad thing?

I think the problem here is that we have no choice in the matter. It doesn't matter if artists agree with streaming or not- IT'S THE WAY MUSIC IS CONSUMED. We have to have our music available on the services that humans use... the internet made music relatively free a good long while ago. I'm not sure we can fight that, though I do try in my own little way. If I like an artist I will buy a physical copy of their music and I implore everyone to do the same. Making music isn't free, so listening to music shouldn't be either. As old fashioned as that may sound.

If you could play with any musician, alive or dead, who would it be and why?

I think I'd like to sing a big ass dramatic duet with Freddie Mercury, and I'd like to have a drink and a chat with Janis Joplin. I'd like to write a song with Kurt Cobain. And I'd like to freestyle jam with Jimi Hendrix... And I would obviously LOVE Stevie Nicks to be my FairyWitch Godmother.

What are your 3 favourite moments in your career?

  1. FINALLY getting a proper rock band together after touring as a duo for what felt like a lifetime (Jo-Jo & The Teeth, Established 2020)
  2. FINALLY releasing a proper body of work that represented the songs the way they were intended when we wrote them. (Jo-Jo & The Teeth, No More Good News 2022)
  3. When Roger Taylor from Queen was at the same event as me and gave me a nod of approval on my ridiculous outfit... I HAVE ARRIVED.

Who should we be listening to?

I have been enjoying the ladies in PANIC SHACK!

What can save our venues?

I think government funding for the arts, the artists and the venues wouldn't hurt, if the venues were getting support they could afford to stop squeezing the bands for money. Also, I think that people who love music and bands need to understand that if they don't support the work, the work disappears, the venues close, the bands have to give up. I guess everyone needs to take responsibility for their little part, maybe we can change some things.

Where is your favourite venue?

I love the Water Rats in Kings Cross, London, great room, great people to work with. What more do you want!?!
