Chicago indie rock trio The Feeders have announced their second full-length album, Dark Days, arriving July 24. Alongside the announcement, the band has released the new single “Why Do We Fight,” giving listeners another preview of the upcoming record.

Built around punchy hooks, overdriven guitars, and fast-paced rhythms, “Why Do We Fight” explores the emotional cycles of conflict in relationships, friendships, and everyday life. Frontman Sam Vicari wrote the song as a reflection on arguments that continue long after their original purpose has been forgotten, examining when conflict can be useful and when it becomes destructive.

The Feeders formed in 2019 after a chance connection brought together Vicari, drummer John Perrin, and bassist Eli Caterer. The trio's first performance came together quickly after Vicari invited Perrin to join him for a set at Taste of Chicago. Bonding over a shared appreciation for Chicago punk staples Smoking Popes, the pair soon added Caterer to complete the lineup.

Following several independently released EPs and singles, The Feeders released their debut album, Kerchoo, through Eccentric Pop Records in 2021. The record earned praise for its energetic blend of power pop and punk rock.

As Caterer's schedule became busier, longtime collaborator Alex Rackow stepped in on bass, helping establish the band's current lineup alongside Vicari and Perrin.

Recorded with producer Joe Gac, whose credits include Meat Wave and The Arrivals, Dark Days channels anxious energy into a direct and concise collection of songs. Clocking in at just 27 minutes, the album favors sharp melodies, buzzing guitar tones, and a sense of urgency over elaborate production.

Despite balancing busy schedules outside the band, including touring commitments and family life, The Feeders continue to find time to create new music and perform together. The group recently opened for The Cribs at Chicago's Empty Bottle and plans to announce an official album release show in the near future.

Dark Days arrives July 24.
