Immersion have released their new single and video, "Megafauna," offering another preview of their upcoming album, What Is Lost Will Return. The full-length record is scheduled for release on Sept. 4 through the duo's own label, swim~, and follows 2025's WTF??.
Made up of Colin Newman of Wire and Malka Spigel of Minimal Compact, Immersion continue to push their electronic sound forward while drawing on decades of musical experience. Rather than revisiting the past, the duo focus on creating music that feels current, blending minimalist production, hypnotic rhythms, and experimental textures into a sound that remains fresh.
"Megafauna" stands apart as one of three instrumental tracks featured on the upcoming album. Built around a dark dub groove, the song balances the more melodic moments found elsewhere on the record, including the previously released single "We Don't Need Your Validation." The track creates a slow-moving atmosphere through layered electronics, driving percussion, and immersive sound design.
The accompanying video highlights sculptures known as "Soft Machines" by artist Ivan Morison, filmed on Hove seafront during the 2026 Brighton Festival. It also incorporates footage from the festival's 2018 "Sense of Unity with Dundu" performance, giving the visual presentation an artistic and dreamlike quality that complements the music.
What Is Lost Will Return marks the second consecutive studio album from Immersion and arrives as the group prepares for another round of UK and European tour dates. The record continues the creative partnership between Newman and Spigel, whose songwriting combines thoughtful lyrics, understated vocals, and detailed electronic arrangements.
Recorded during a burst of creativity, the album explores themes of hope, change, and finding meaning during uncertain times.
