Oslo post-punks THE APE have released their new single “Touchy,” offering a more reflective side of the band ahead of their debut album, due in 2027 through Loyal Blood Records.

After introducing themselves with two louder and angrier singles, THE APE shift gears on “Touchy.” Rather than channeling frustration outward, the song looks at the strange experience of getting older and realizing that time seems to be moving faster than it once did.

The track approaches that feeling through small, everyday details. Its world includes befriending a robot vacuum cleaner, collecting takeaway coupons and unexpectedly getting emotional over movie endings. Together, those mundane moments capture the creeping realization that life has changed while you were busy living it.

There is no attempt to turn that anxiety into an inspirational message. “Touchy” instead sits with the discomfort of reaching a point in life and wondering how exactly you arrived there. The song also deals with the feeling of slowly running out of new things to say, giving its observations about aging a dry and self-aware edge.

The single marks the third preview of THE APE’s still-untitled debut album. The record is scheduled to arrive sometime in 2027 through Loyal Blood Records, with further details yet to be announced.

THE APE features Johan Fredrik Bolli on vocals and drums, Simen Trippestad and Johannes Amble on guitars, and Kristian Leonhardsen on bass. With “Touchy,” the group begin widening the emotional range of their early material, showing that their take on post-punk has room for quieter forms of unease alongside the anger of their first releases.

For now, “Touchy” offers a funny, uncomfortable snapshot of adulthood and the increasingly suspicious speed of the calendar.
