“Julia” by Gal Musette is an incredible female fronted, piano infused, moody and catchy indie pop song with majestic vocals resting above it like a warm blanket during an ice-cold apocalypse. While the press release describes the song as “a heartfelt love letter to her younger sister Julia”, one cannot help but notice the menacing nature of the main piano part and wonder what complications there may be between the two sisters, or perhaps the feel is simply more indicative of the level of intensity Musette is wanting to display regarding her message to her sister. While my interpretations may be way off, I think you’ll get my assertion that the song is contemplative and thought provoking, all while very pleasing to the ear with its wonderful instrumentation (do not miss the incoming percussion), and tremendously melodic and angelic vocals.
Gal Musette has recently collaborated with the likes of Rufus Wainwright and has toured with The Magnetic Fields, Donavon Frankenreiter, among others. "Julia" is off of her forthcoming full-length Backwards Lullaby due out October 2021. She has received acclaim from the likes of Earmilk, Cool Hunting, Atwood Magazine, and Buzzbands among others.
