Connecticut hardcore/noise band Intercourse have just released "Halo Castration Institute" via Learning Curve Records earlier this month. A heavy, churning, angry assault of heavy guitars and chugging hardcore riffs, Intercourse leaves their mark with this excellent new LP.
The record starts off with “Where Losers Go To Die”, with a heavy bass and a slow drum beat/intro as the vocals emerge along the noise. Around the 1:45 mark it gets heavy with the slow grind of a noise rock attack blended with classic hardcore sounds. The vocals taunt the listener, and this theme continues throughout the record.
The record continues with the mid-tempo “I Need Saturday Off So I Can Play A Teenager’s Basement”, which has a killer beat down part towards the end. If you haven’t heard Intercourse before, as I hadn’t, you still aren’t sure if the tempo increases, but in the 3rd track “The Passion of Jesus Christ Allin”, Intercourse show their versatility speeding things up and playing with interesting time signatures.
With obviously interesting song titles and lyrical content, crisp production and well executed instrumentation, and most songs under 3 minutes, Intercourse put forward 10 noise/hardcore tracks that will fit in well with any listener of heavy punk and hardcore music. Highly recommended.
