Southern California pop-punk band Rufio are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their debut album, Perhaps, I Suppose..., with a newly re-recorded version of the fan favorite "Dipshit." The release also marks the beginning of a new chapter for the band as they prepare to release their upcoming EP, From The Outside, on Aug. 7 through Double Helix Records and sister label Double Felix Records.
Originally released in 2001, "Dipshit" helped establish Rufio's reputation for fast guitar work, memorable melodies, and energetic songwriting. The new recording updates the classic track while preserving the style that made it a favorite among longtime fans.
The upcoming EP will be the band's first collection of new music in 16 years. Longtime members Scott Sellers, Clark Domae, and Taylor Albaugh reunited to write and record the five-song release, approaching the project without the expectations that surrounded earlier releases. Instead of trying to recreate the past, the trio focused on making music that reflects where they are today.
From The Outside explores themes of adulthood, family, anxiety, personal growth, and loss. The songs present a more reflective side of Rufio while maintaining the melodic songwriting and technical musicianship that defined the band's early work.
The EP's title track is especially personal, inspired by the passing of Sellers' father in 2024. That emotional foundation helps shape a record that looks forward rather than relying on nostalgia, showing how the band's songwriting has evolved over the years.
The project also introduces several firsts for Rufio. Dylan Roy handles drums throughout the EP, while acclaimed producer Sam Guaiana mixed the record and Jason Livermore mastered it at The Blasting Room. From The Outside also marks the band's first release through Double Helix Records and Double Felix Records.
With the re-recorded "Dipshit" now available, fans can revisit one of Rufio's defining songs while looking ahead to a long-awaited return. As the band celebrates a landmark anniversary, From The Outside promises to continue Rufio's legacy with new songs shaped by experience, growth, and a renewed creative partnership ahead of its Aug. 7 release.
