Portuguese atmospheric sludge and post-metal band Thrownness have released their second EP, Marrow Part II: A Fire Through The Ether, through Raging Planet Records. The new record continues the story that began with the band's 2024 EP, Marrow, while pushing their sound into even heavier and more emotional territory.
Based in Lisbon, Thrownness features Kévin Guimet on guitar and vocals, Micas on bass and vocals, Tiago Rodrigues on guitar, and João Fernandes on drums. After several lineup changes, the group has settled into a stable lineup that fully brings Kévin's original vision to life. For this release, every member helped write the material, giving the songs a stronger sense of unity and purpose.
The EP also includes work from session drummer André Martins during the 2025 recording process, while André Isidro handled recording duties. Together, the team created a release that feels focused while still leaving room for the band's evolving sound.
Across its three tracks, Marrow Part II: A Fire Through The Ether blends massive sludge riffs, doom inspired pacing, and atmospheric post-rock textures. The songs take their time to develop, moving through quiet passages, crushing walls of sound, and emotional peaks that reward patient listeners. The band's approach creates long musical journeys that balance heaviness with melody and atmosphere.
Thrownness draw inspiration from influential acts such as Neurosis, Cult of Luna, and Amenra, but the band shape those influences into a sound that feels personal. Their music combines powerful instrumental performances with emotional songwriting, creating songs that carry both weight and depth.
Lyrically and emotionally, the EP centers on loss, remembrance, and the search for meaning during difficult moments. Rather than offering simple answers, the music gives space to reflect on grief, personal struggles, and the emotions that come with moving forward. Those themes match the record's dynamic sound, making each composition feel purposeful from beginning to end.
With Marrow Part II: A Fire Through The Ether, Thrownness continue to build on the foundation of their earlier work while delivering an immersive release that highlights the band's growth as songwriters and performers.
