The New Jersey crew, consisting of ex Senses Fail members, broke out in the mid 00s scene alongside Taking Back Sunday.

Having unveiled their first new music in almost 20 years in January, fans have had a much shorter wait for Tokyo Rose's new single "Ugly Comes Out".

The East Coast emo outfit bring a nostalgic dose of the mid 00s with the potent and anthemic new single, hot off the heels of "Something Sweeter".

The quartet will be releasing Never Say Die EP later this year on Manic Kat Records.

Sharing the story of their sound, now vs when they broke through, lead vocalist Ryan Dominguez explains: "Sonically, "Ugly Comes Out", and indeed the rest of our upcoming EP, Never Say Die are an evolution of our sound. That's not to say departing completely from our pop-punk and emo roots, but definitely incorporating modern recording techniques and some song writing influences that we may have picked up in the almost 20 years since we recorded The Promise in Compromise."

Formed in 1999 by ex Senses Fail bassist Mike Glita & Matt Reilly, formerly of The Finals, Tokyo Rose emerged from what would become the iconic New Jersey alternative rock/emo scene of the early 2000's. The sound, accordingly, was a deeply relatable, perennially heart-on-sleeve brand of rock. Emotive guitars and the rousing vocals captured fans across the US, with bold, sweeping melodies capturing a mainstream following.

After going through personnel changes that would see Reilly depart, the East Coast outfit emerged with Ryan Dominguez taking duties as lead vocalist and guitarist.

2002 saw the release of the band's debut EP, Chasing Fireflies on All About Records, followed by debut full-length, Reinventing A Lost Art the following year. But it would be 2005 LP New American Saint that would truly put Tokyo Rose on the map.

Tours with Taking Back Sunday, Yellowcard; international runs & Vans Warped Tour dates soon followed, with Tokyo Rose's innately personal and emotionally resonant live show impressing across continents.

Though Tokyo Rose continued to tour through present day, 2007 record The Promise in Compromise would be the band's last studio album. Last year's Remastered Deluxe version of their sophomore LP, would mark their re-emergence, and the Jersey natives wasted little time making a mark on 2026 with moreish anthem "Something Sweeter" preceding new single, "Ugly Comes Out".

Featuring a reassembled line-up but a sound imbuing Tokyo Rose at their peak, fans are treated to a slice of throwback emo excellence, a track that stands up alongside the genre's most iconic bands, but also offers an accessible entry point for younger fans of alternative rock.
