Punk trio Trash n' Privilege have unveiled their frank and unwaveringly pertinent new single, "Best That You're Dead".
The new track sees the band purveying their prototypical brand of raw, unfiltered punk, tackling the issues head on as they rue the loss of dialogue, nuance and ability to converse openly about the issues going on in the world.
Vocalist Steve Shepard opens up on the issue: "The lyrics draw from this phenomenon of people being ostracized from their family or friends because they disagree on politics or religion. Which I find completely antithetical to politics and religion. We have to be able to agree to disagree.”
Shepard continues: “We all have seen it, experienced it, maybe done it. Rejecting a close friend or family member as if they died over an opinion is bonkers to me. Opinions change, people change. Let’s not be so fast to write one another off.”
Born out of a shared frustration with the status quo, Trash n’ Privilege dazzle with their fast paced, melodically weighted punk rock. The Fresno outfit’s caffeine laced, high-octane energy is raw and unapologetic with a soundscape that nods to punk icons Ramones, Quicksand and Social Distortion.
Last year's Commence With The Bum Out brought a sonic assault of blistering guitar riffs, thundering bass lines, and relentless drums, accompanied by lyrics that tackle themes of a 24-hour news cycle, big tech, and personal struggles.
On new single, "Best That You're Dead", the California crew vent their grievances on the divisive nature of modern life and the inability for balanced discussion. But amidst the depth and introspection, the sonic output is textbook Trash N Privilege; passionate, expressive punk, laced with urgency and melody, an energetic and highly charged anthem, as timely as it is embracing.
